EL LIBRO DE NAVIDAD DE LOVECRAFT

En 1984 la conocida editorial Necronomicon Press sacó a la venta un libro titulado The H.P. Lovecraft Christmas Book, o El libro de Navidad de H.P. Lovecraft, en español. Se trata de un librito de solo 10 páginas, con ilustraciones de Jason Eckhardt, que recogía 27 poemas breves de Lovecraft, de temática navideña o dedicados a algunos de sus colegas y amigos, como Frank Belknap Long, Sonia Greene, C.W. Smith o Edith Miniter, o a sus dos tías, Lillian Clark y Annie Gamwell, como felicitaciones de las fiestas navideñas. Aunque el escritor de Providence era un declarado ateo, y no asistía a ninguna celebración religiosa cristiana, solía felicitar la Navidad a sus amigos y parientes y participar del típico ambiente festivo, muy arraigado en la sociedad estadounidense. La lista de poemas es la siguiente (la mayoría no tiene título y se conocen por el primer verso):

In Yuletide mood my pencil fain would trace...

Once more the greens and holly glow...

Precocious Sir, who draw'st with wizardry...

As when a pigeon, loos'd in realms remote...

In these dull lines, deserving of no praise...

Enclos'd you'll find, if nothing fly astray...

Once more the ancient feast returns...
